Malaysia Airlines Flight 17
Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was a Boeing 777 in the process of flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. It was shot down over the eastern Ukraine. Two hundred eighty-three passengers and fifteen crew died. The plane was a Boeing 777-200ER. The plane disappeared from radar screens near Torez in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine, 25 miles from the border.
The Russian government blamed the Ukrainian government. An independent analysis by Bellingcat of open-source evidence confirmed the rumors that Russian-backed separatists were in control of a Buk missile launcher at the time of the accident.
